Public Lecture on "The Interplay Between International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in light of Georgia v Russia (ECtHR)”

On Wednesday 14 April 2021, the International Law Institute of Tbilisi State University welcomed Prof. Noam Lubell of the University of Essex/UK, who gave a guest lecture on “The Interplay Between International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in light of the Georgia v. Russia Case (ECtHR)”.
Prof. Lubell spoke about matters of jurisdiction, the European Court of Human Rights’ case law, and the application of international humanitarian law and human rights law in the case at hand.

Prof. Irine Kurdadze provided opening remarks and spoke about the importance of this recent case to Georgia, particularly because Georgia’s territories are recognized as occupied by Russia.

Some 80 students and participants attended the online event, along with the Institute’s professors and staff. The event was moderated by Dr. Natia Kalandarishvili-Mueller, who lectures on International Humanitarian Law at Tbilisi State University.
